Planning a wedding is stressful, we don't need to tell you that. But there are things you may appreciate knowing...
1. You Talk Wedding. A Lot.
So you're excited about your impending nuptuals, and so you should be! But just try to remember that not everybody around you is getting married too. If you spot a work colleague nodding off as you reel off your for and against list for using satin favour bags, it may be time to rein it in a little. Check out our wedding forum here where you'll find lots of like-minded brides to be ready to chat about the finer details of wedding planning.
2. You Cry Sad Tears
Oh you're crying again, what a surprise! Us girls are an emotional bunch, but weddings can max out your tear ducts! It can be easy to let the stress eat you up until you burst into tears on hearing the cake filling isn't available in mango flavour, so try to keep a little perspective, or you'll burn yourself out. If the planning is becoming overwhelming, make sure you're signed up to MyWedding here for a helping hand on keeping your tasks in order, working out your budget and much more.
3. You Cry Happy Tears
Sometimes they aren't happy or sad tears are they, be honest. You found the perfect shade of pink for the chair sashes, or you see your name on the wedding invites for the first time. It doesn't take much to set some brides off when planning a wedding, so indulge in this emotional roller coaster and cry when you want to! These are the moments you'll look back on and treasure, don't fight your emotions just this once.
Feeling the pressure? Don't forget to use your to do list here to keep track of your task list and automatically when tasks become overdue.
Don't forget to use our free virtual wedding planning service here - you can send us details of your wedding and we'll find the merchants you need and check availability.
4. You Have Moments When You Switch to Divorce Planning
What do you mean you don't like buttercream filling? No we can't have a car shaped wedding cake! No we are not having Metallica for the first dance! You're going to have those moments when you wonder why you are marrying this man, and that's ok. Wedding planning is almost an initiation ceremony - if you can plan the big day together and still love each other by the end of it, you're worthy of a walk down that aisle.
5. You Forget You're Not the Only Decision Maker
In many relationships, the bride to be will naturally take on the lead role in planning the wedding, and in may cases the groom will be happy to let her. But it's important that you don't assume this is the case. Ask your husband-to-be if he had any wishes for your wedding day, or wants an input in the decor, the attire, the venue etc - he may have some great ideas but need a little encouragement to share them.
6. You May Have Turned Into Bridezilla
It's inevitable that you'll have at least one meltdown moment when you turn into Bridezilla, and your nearest and dearest may fear pointing it out. Sometimes it will be a quick flash of the wedding monster, but sometimes it can carry on for weeks driving you and your friends crazy. Call up your most honest friend or family member and ask them to let you know when you're going too far. Don't worry too much though, its the prerogative of every bride to have the odd crazy moment in the midst of wedding planning chaos.
7. You're Not Filtering the Advice
The problem with opinions is everyone has one. The other problem is they all have a different one. This can add to your planning problems, as you try to take it all onboard and end up running in circles. If someone advises against a live band, ask them why. It may be it didn't suit their reception venue, but it would be a perfect choice for yours. Listen to the advice but then filter it - this is your day, so if the lady in the shoe store nearly had a heart attack when you told her you want pink wedding shoes, filter it out - it's your choice.
