You may want to smell as sweet as roses on your wedding day, but actually picking a special perfume to tie the knot in isn't always as easy as you would first think. With so many choices out there, it can be overwhelming selecting the right scent for your special day.
That's why we're here to help!
Traditional or something new?
This is a question many b2bs struggle with. Should they stick with the scent they've always worn - one that their husband-to-be is already familiar with - or should they treat themselves to a new scent on their wedding day?
Only you can answer that, but many brides like picking out a new perfume for their wedding day, as in years to come, the scent will be a reminder of how you felt when you walked down the aisle, said your vows, and enjoyed your first dance together.
Pick a bridal scent
Okay, so what exactly is a 'bridal scent'? These are typically light with floral hints. Don't choose anything too strong, fruity or musky. You basically want it to smell like you've walked through a field of roses, not like you're getting ready for a night out.
Find one that has ascents of the flowers you'll carry to really complement the scent of the bouquet.
Similarly, don't pick one that may clash with your flowers, especially if you've chosen blooms with heavy scents like lavender, lilies and jasmine.
Try it on your skin
You're all familiar with the little strips of cards used to smell new perfume scents, and these are great at narrowing down a huge choice of smells. However, when you've got a top five, it is wise to start spritzing directly on to your skin.
This is because perfumes smell differently on different skins. It is a good idea to spray your favourite, leave it on for a while and see if you still like how it smells in a few hours. You may find it takes on a completely different tone when it mixes with the chemistry of your body, in which case it's back to the drawing board for you!
See if your h2b likes it too
When it comes to the 'bridal look', most things are kept secret from your h2b, but you can subtly try to get his opinion on new perfumes if you want to pick one that he likes too. Spray on a tester and wear it around the house one day to see if he notices. If he likes it - or especially if he doesn't - you may have your answer.
You don't want to end up with a smell that puts your partner off their dinner, so it could be worth testing a few first. Plus, I guarantee you, he'll never remember that scent until you walk down the aisle wearing it.
Don't forget the seasons
It's all well advising choosing romantic perfume with hints of jasmine, but if you're marrying in the winter, you may want a different scent entirely. It is worth trying on perfumes at the time of year you're getting married to really get an idea of what it'll smell like on the day.
For a winter wedding, avoid anything too floral or fruity, but choose perfumes with warmer, sultry tones, such as chocolate.
Choosing a wedding perfume may sound like a lot of work, but when you spray it on for your anniversaries in many years to come, you'll be glad you spent time picking the right scent that invokes happy memories of your wedding day.
