Go for glam
While summer weddings are all about soft fabrics and bright or subtle colours, autumn nuptials allow you to be a bit more glamorous. Typically, as the weather is colder, you're inside more so you can really emphasise the grandeur of the venue with your gown.

You could opt for a statement dress in a daring colour, add a spectacular jacket such as a faux-fur shrug, or accessorise with bold jewellery.


Jewelled colours
As the winter months approach, jewelled colours once again become more popular, so why not incorporate this into your wedding style too? Choose a floor-length gown in berry purple, a shift dress in striking emerald green, or go for this year's must-have shade, navy.

Other colours that are huge when it comes to autumnal weddings are rusty orange - ideal for crisp September days - and bright red, which are better suited to nuptials nearing the festive period.


Sparkle in a metallic shade
You could add some 'glam' factor into your outfit by opting for a dress in a metallic shade. Rose golds, dark silvers and deep bronzes are fabulous colours for fall weddings. After all, as Christmas approaches, you can never be too sparkly, can you?


Choose floor-length gowns
You might think maxi dresses are only appropriate during the summer months, but floor-length frocks are also great at autumn weddings - perhaps most importantly because they keep you warmer than knee-length ones!

Prepare yourself for cool days and even cooler nights by wearing a dress that skims your toes, but make sure you choose a dress in a heavier fabric or a deeper colour than your summer maxi dress - otherwise it may look totally out of place. This could be your time to really dress up, so think ball gowns and bejewelled features.


Make your jacket part of your outfit
At summer weddings, you might bring your cardigan or shawl just in case the breeze picks up while you're waiting for the canapés to arrive. But at autumn weddings, you can guarantee you'll need to cover up at some point during the day - so make sure your coat or jacket is every much a part of your outfit as your dress.

You could opt for a coat in a matching colour to your gown - a favourite tip from Kate Middleton! - or you could invest in a statement piece that will go with many dresses in your wardrobe, such as a chic blazer or a glamorous cape.


Keep your toes warm
Unless your dress is screaming out for dainty sandals, make sure you buy some closed toe shoes for the wedding. You never know if you'll have to pose for pictures outside - particularly if you're one of the wedding party - and your toes won't thank you if they're left bare for the duration of the day.
